Family outing on a shoestring budget
Posted on June 16th, 2009 in Travel

Economic crunch is forcing many Americans to forfeit their plans for fun and enjoyment. Americans, once notorious for their travels and family outing, are now mostly confined to their homes. They can’t afford going out to other countries or even cities, in some case. Family outing for them becomes more of a distant dream.
But they should not lose hope so easily. America is still a land of opportunities — and economy — if you are able to find the right solution for you. Family outing is essentially a vacation away from your dwelling. Following are some of the tried and tested ways of cutting your travel expenses while also enjoying a good family outing.
- Try visiting the landmarks in your home state. If you live in New York City, the upstate area is full of lakes, mountains and camping sites. A visit to these areas will cost you nothing as compared to an expensive visit abroad.
- Staying in a hotel does not cost a fortune anymore. It all depends on your finances as budget hotels are aplenty in every tourist place. Some high-profile hotels are also opening their doors for budget travelers and offering amazing discounts. You just need to keep on checking such deals on the Internet.
- Family outing can be more fun if you can mange your finances a bit more cleverly. Disneyland tour, for example, is the dream of every American kid. Your kids can follow their dream if you are able to find cheap air travel deals. Some airlines offer extremely cheap rates while others have promotional offers.
- Staying in a hostel or shared accommodation cuts back your expenses. This would be really helpful if you are visiting the mega tourist attractions in the U.S like Florida or California.
- Camping is a cheap alternative to hotels. There has been an increasing trend of tourists camping out in some major tourist destinations, including Los Angeles. This, however, is more feasible for lone travelers or couples as compared to those on a family outing.
